FIRE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

The highest priority when there is a fire is the safety of people!

1.Follow Acronym R A C E :

a. Remove anyone in danger

b. Alert others and the authorities by calling 911

c. Confine the area, Close doors/windows etc.

d. Extinguish, if possible, Evacuate when not possible

2. Remove

a. Get everyone out of the house or building.

b. Conduct a head count to make sure everyone is out of the building.

3. Alert

a. Call 911

b. State your name, at Cottage #__Malden Island, Georgetown Maine and that you are reporting a structural fire. (Cottage numbers are on the outside of each cottage)

4. Confine

a. Close all doors and windows to area with fire

5.Extinguish/Evacuate

a. Attempt to extinguish flames with an extinguisher, only if immediately present and fire is small and under control.

b. If unable to extinguish, evacuate to a safe place and wait for fire fighters to arrive.

6.Other Activities

a. Have someone go across the harbor to pick up the first responders from the fire and rescue team. (Large club work boat should be used if time permits, because it has the most capacity and is the most stable.)

b. Alert abutting household(s).

c. Get fire hoses from the lockers behind the Government Center and lay out from pier head to building.

d. Bring fire pump on cart beside government center, to the pier head.

e. Keep people away from burning structure.


Preventative measures strongly encourage in every house:

1. Smoke Detectors and CO2 Detector– with functional batteries

2. Fire Extinguishers – strategically placed in kitchen, near fireplaces

3. Functional garden hose

4. First Aid Kit & Supplies


MEDICAL EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

1. Call 911. State your name and that you are reporting a medical emergency at # Malden Island, Georgetown Maine. Cottage numbers are displayed outside of each Cottage.

2. If someone is present who knows CPR, they should start the assessment process and being CPR if indicated

3. Obtain the defibrillator (AED) which is in the Government Center

4. Have someone go across the harbor to pick up the first responders from the rescue team. (Large club work boat should be used if time permits, because it has the most capacity and is the most stable.)

1. Fire Extinguishers (Pressure water and chemical) are in all cottages and the cookhouse.

2. Indian backpack water pumps are located at the Beebe Cottage (1), Government Center (2), Icehouse (2), Paradise (2), and Moorings (3).
