Saturday, August 5, 2023, marked the resumption of the popular Five Islands Regatta, albeit, with some modifications. Resuming after the scourge of Covid, the day was highlighted by many field events as well as the always popular water events.
Beginning with kayak races for all age groups and abilities, the day progressed to several field events, including: a corn hole tournament; burlap bag race (including a photo finish with a declared tie!) and egg toss (yes, raw eggs!) Of course, the kayak races were followed by the ever popular, “Build Your Own Model Sailboat Race” in which all entries were to be constructed from recycled materials found on-island – there are rumors flying that one of the prerace favorites from the Alcove was constructed of contraband, not to mention crossing the starting line ahead of the gun and fouling several other entries! And throughout the day, everyone could enjoy the boardwalk art of the “Chalk Walk”.
In the tradition of FIYC Regatta Days, everyone participated. Grateful thanks to all organizers, event managers, participants, and, the Cookhouse staff for delicious cookies and a burgee designed cake for the dinner desert!
So, Save the Date – Saturday, August 3, 2024, for the Second Annual Field Day and Junior Regatta. You can anticipate several of the same events with maybe a few new surprises! It will surely be a must show on your summer calendar.
